The Woodward Dream Cruise is not one event. It is a week of them, and the official 2026 city lineup is now posted. Around the main cruise on Saturday, August 15, the towns along Woodward stack their own parades, car shows, and street parties, and several of the best ones happen Friday night. Every event below comes from the official Dream Cruise calendar, and all of them are free.
Here is the city-by-city plan, plus the shuttle trick that lets you hit three parties in one day. For viewing spots, parking, and cruise-day strategy, see our full Woodward Dream Cruise 2026 guide.

Friday Is the Locals’ Day
Regulars know the secret: Friday delivers most of the fun with a fraction of the crowd. In Ferndale, an emergency vehicle show runs from 1 to 7 p.m., and the Lights and Sirens Parade rolls at 5:30 p.m. Meanwhile, Berkley hosts the CruiseFest Classic Car Parade from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m., then keeps the street open for a concert and a movie until 11 p.m. Royal Oak starts early too, with day one of its Car Show in the Park running from noon to 9 p.m.
In short, you can see classic cars, a parade, and live music on Friday, then sleep in your own bed before the big day. For families with young kids, Friday night in Berkley is the easiest version of Dream Cruise weekend.
Saturday, City by City
On cruise day, each town runs its own festival while the cars roll past. Ferndale hosts Mustang Alley and the Bronco Corral from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., with a kids zone and an entertainment stage. Royal Oak continues the Car Show in the Park from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Birmingham fills South Old Woodward with a car show and vendor displays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Farther north, Pleasant Ridge and Pontiac have merchandise tents confirmed, with more events still to be announced.
Because everything sits on one 16-mile stretch, the question is not what to do. It is how much you can fit in one day.
The Shuttle Strategy
The answer is the shuttle. Free SMART shuttles run the Woodward route between Ferndale and downtown Pontiac from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday, and every bus is wheelchair accessible with a bike rack. As a result, the smartest cruise day looks like this: park once near a shuttle stop, start with Birmingham’s morning show, ride south to Mustang Alley in the afternoon, and finish at Royal Oak’s show into the evening.
Trying to drive between towns on cruise day is the rookie mistake. Woodward crawls, side streets fill, and a two-mile hop can take an hour. Ride the loop instead.
Why It Matters
The Dream Cruise draws around a million people to 16 miles of Woodward, and the city events are what turn a traffic jam of classics into a weekend worth planning. All of it is free, most of it is family-friendly, and the best parts start before Saturday. Schedules can shift, so confirm details on the official calendar before you go, and follow RAW’s Things to Do coverage for updates through cruise week.
