If you stop by an Einstein Bros. Bagels in Michigan over the next couple of weeks, you’ll find something you can’t order anywhere else in the country.
The bagel shop has teamed up with Michigan favorite Cherry Republic to create the Very Cherry Shmear, a limited-time whipped cream cheese mixed with Cherry Republic’s signature cherry jam.
The new spread officially launched Wednesday, July 15, and will be available at participating Michigan locations for a limited time while supplies last.
A Michigan First
This marks the first time Einstein Bros. has created a menu item exclusively for Michigan.
Rather than shipping the finished product, each participating bakery hand-makes the Very Cherry Shmear fresh in-house by mixing Cherry Republic’s cherry jam into Einstein Bros.’ double-whipped cream cheese.
At the launch event in Royal Oak, staff gave guests a behind-the-scenes look at how the bagels are baked fresh each day and how the cherry shmear is prepared before being served.
A Collaboration That Feels Right at Home
Cherry Republic has been celebrating Michigan cherries since 1989 from its home base in Glen Arbor. The company has become known for turning the state’s famous tart cherries into everything from jams and salsa to candy and beverages.
Michigan produces about 75% of the nation’s tart cherries, with much of the harvest coming from the Traverse City region.
That makes this collaboration feel like a natural fit. The same cherry jam you’ll find at Cherry Republic stores is now being served on fresh-baked bagels at participating Einstein Bros. locations across Michigan.
