Get ready for a festival of flavor at the Tastes of Summer event, coming next Saturday to Metro Detroit’s very own Rivertown Market.
On July 12 from 1PM-4PM, the Tastes of Summer event will feature 18 local vendors, live music performed by Savannah G. and a free cooking class with Chef Farah Sattar of Dawat.
The featured vendors who will be selling at Tastes of Summer come from a variety of cultural and generational backgrounds. These vendors include Planted Detroit, Hacienda Mexican Foods, Tiana’s Hair Creators, Detroit City Distillery, etc. (A full list can be found on the Rivertown Market’s Instagram page.)
Sattar’s hands on class will teach attendees of all skill levels how to prepare traditional momo and sharbat, with a focus on exploring South Asian cuisine. While Sattar’s class has a limit on attendance, the overall event is open to everybody.
Sattar has a well-established career in cuisine, especially throughout Metro Detroit. In their time with the Dawat Supper Club, Sattar has also worked with Folk Detroit during their Food Folks event. Throughout these events Sattar remains passionate about sharing culture in the kitchen, with sustainable community being a pillar of her practice.
Holistic tradition is at the core of this event serving the beating heart of Detroit’s cosmopolitan palate. Many cultures have moved in and out of the city, bringing peoples and community together for generations. It is efforts like Sattar’s, local businesses like the Rivertown Market and events like Tastes of Summer that allows Metro Detroit’s multicultural roots to thrive.
